Mix Tape Classic – DJ Rob Vaughan @ Aqua Lounge (1991)

I started digitizing my old mix tapes tonight and the first one I pulled out of the vault was a classic from 1991 that I treasured back in the day. The mix is by DJ Rob Vaughan at the infamous Dallas night club, ‘Aqua Lounge’. Rob was, and still is, one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to turntable mastery and I’m proud to also call him one of my closest friends. Those of you who frequented Aqua Lounge will agree with me when I say some of the most memorable nights of our lives were spent sweating it out to Rob’s tunes in that tiny little club on Main Street in Deep Ellum.

This mix was recorded on a 120-minute Sony cassette tape, and considering it’s age (18 years) it sounds quite good. I spliced both sides of the tape together to make one continuous mix – too long for a CD but perfect for an iPod. All you old-skool Dallas club kids out there – I hope you enjoy this blast from the past. It’s a great ride. Rob – sorry I misspelled your last name on the tape…; )

Wow…thanks a lot. Me and my friends were talking about the Aqua Lounge the other day. We talked about how crazy and balls out we were at that place. We all laughed when we remembered being in the bathroom doing things we shouldnt have been doing. Anyways we remembered one night one of the bouncers walked in and said “come guys at least shut the door”. That is how wheels off that place was. Thanks for the flashback and helk I think I was their listening to Rob mix this very tape live…. even cooler. Thanks again and more posts like this please.

It’s a trip exactly the vibes this music is bring back to me. Todd, I beleive you working at backstreet at the time. Always started out at the video bar and rolled on down to Aqua Lounge by around midnight. It’s a wonder we all did not get arrested. Things were and everyone was rolling back in the day. GOOD TIMES
I feel bad for the youngsters who think they new what partying was all about. Or maybe justed conceeded, as I recall everyone down back in the day.
