Paper Buddha’s 2008 Top 20

2008 was one of my favorite years for new music (remixes/re-issues included) and I had the toughest time narrowing my best-of list down to a manageable size. 10 was too few and anything larger than 20 would make me look way too indecisive. So, the magic number this year is 20.

My 2008 Top 20 is comprised of tracks that (a) really grabbed me for one reason or another, (b) made heads bob (almost to the point of whiplash in some cases), and (c) I never got tired of hearing no matter how many times I played them for myself and others. The tracks aren’t in rank order. Instead, they’re arranged for optimal listen-ability given the variety of genres (Electro, Minimal, Tech, Progressive). However, I will say that I did save the best for last – the Deadmau5 remix of Longest Road from Morgan Page’s debut album, Elevate. The whole album is stellar IMO, and every time I hear this track the hair stands up on the back of my neck. And, Deadmau5 is also nominated for a GRAMMY Award (Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical) for the remix of Longest Road – good stuff.
